💕 Prostatic Concretions of Love 💕
Nothing says “Be My Valentine?” like solidified, heart-shaped globules in the prostate gland.
Happy Valentine’s Day!!
These ‘globules’ are common histological findings. Their anatomical name is corpora amylacea (from the Latin for ‘starchy bodies’) but they are also known as prostatic concretions. They are essentially just deposits of glycoprotein & keratan sulfate that can be found in the lumen of the prostate gland. They serve no known physiological function but can become calcified and they also increase in number with age!
