These ‘globules’ are common histological findings. Their anatomical name is corpora amylacea (from the Latin for ‘starchy bodies’) but they are also known as prostatic concretions. They are essentially just deposits of glycoprotein & keratan sulfate that can be found in the lumen of the prostate gland. They serve no known physiological function but can become calcified and they also increase in number with age!

Looking at tissue sections to see their normal histology in my new pathology module. Next week we’re looking at cancerous tissues to see the difference. 🔬🦠
